Position Location:
Hutchinson ABS is seeking a VIE to fill the position, Operations Support Engineer This position reports to the Sr, Plant Manager. The position is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States.
Position Description:
The Operations Support Engineer provides technical and analytical support across production, process improvement, and daily operational activities. This role bridges engineering and operations by troubleshooting issues, optimizing processes, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring smooth plant performance. The Operations Support Engineer works closely with production teams, maintenance, quality, and engineering to drive efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve overall operational reliability.

Hutchinson is a Tier One manufacturer of automotive anti-vibration systems. We design and manufacture in three locations with Grand Rapids established as corporate headquarters and technology center. The Grand Rapids is the technology center for AVS. The corporate headquarters for AVS is a full-service design, test, and manufacture of anti-vibration components for automotive ICE engines, BEV, PHEV, and anti-vibration bracketry for mounting accessory items. Processes you will find here are Rubber Mixing, Rubber Injection, Plastic Injection and complex automated assembly.
Mission:
• Support day to day plant operations by resolving process, equipment, and workflow issues.
• Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks, waste, and improvement opportunities.
• Lead or support continuous improvement (CI) projects using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar tools.
• Assist in developing and optimizing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
• Collaborate with engineering on process changes, equipment upgrades, and new product introductions.
• Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for operational or quality issues.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and recommend actions to improve performance.
• Provide technical support to production teams and help train operators on new processes or tools.
Profil recherché
Specialization / Specialization :
• Background in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
• Strong interest in operations, process optimization, and continuous improvement.
Level of education : Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field
Technical skills :
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, or Six Sigma tools.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and workflow optimization.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, process maps, and engineering documentation.
• Experience with data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI, Minitab, or similar).
• Familiarity with root cause analysis methods (5 Why, Fishbone, DMAIC).
• Basic understanding of PLCs, automation, or industrial systems (optional but valuable).
• Ability to create or update SOPs, work instructions, and process documentation.
• Comfortable with ERP/MES systems for production tracking and reporting.
