Description de la mission

EDF Energy is a core part of the EDF Group, one of the largest energy companies in Europe with key business operations in the UK, France, Italy, China and US. As part of the development of service offerings for our residential customers and business units, exploratory developments are carried out in the UK by the subsidiary EDF Energy. In an environment where energy flexibility needs and market are changing very quickly, EDF wishes to strengthen ties and cooperation with its other international research centres on smart and global energy systems. Contributing to projects related to smart energy systems in the UK and Europe, the candidate will work with EDF Energy, EDF Group, UK academia, research councils and industrial partners. The candidate will have the opportunity to work across two teams : the Future Energy Customers team, and the Systems, Markets & Optimisation team. As a member of the Systems, Markets & Optimisation team in the EDF R&D UK Centre, the engineer will develop and deliver projects relating to power systems modelling and economics, integration of renewable power generation into transmission and distribution networks, grid-connected and behind-the-meter battery storage and electrification of transport. In support of the team manager, the researcher engineer will contribute to these projects by undertaking quantitative studies and project management tasks, support on securing funding for new projects (research for bids, drafting propositions, pitching ideas to internal stakeholders). The nature of the R&D UK Centre and its proximity to the Business Units require flexibility and networking capabilities to ensure that the Business Units priorities are fully considered and reflected. As the candidate will be expected to communicate complex topics to audiences from a variety of backgrounds and seniority, excellent communication skills are vital.

Profil recherché

As part of a dynamic and committed team, your mission will include: • Good programming skills (R or Python) • Good understanding of mathematical optimisation methods • Knowledge in environmental analysis and Net Zero strategy • Knowledge in low-carbon mobility or heating technologies • Prior knowledge of the energy sector (electricity markets, low carbon technologies, energy economics) is preferable. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
